The team behind the blogging platform WordPress has introduced a new widget from SocialVibe that lets you collect money for charity right on your blog. Simply pair yourself up with a brand or product you like. Every time a reader interacts with that brand while visiting your Web site, the sponsoring company will donate money to the charitable organization of your choice. Donations travel from the company directly to the charity, no blogger or reader money ever changes hands.
"In addition to earning donations, you’ll also get feedback from your charity about the difference they’re making thanks to you. By clicking the charity logo in the badge, you can find information about your cause and view real-time goal progress," writes WordPress VP Raanan Bar-Cohen.
This is a really fantastic idea that's long overdue. People have been trying to find ways to monetize their blogs for ages, often annoying readers in the process. The partnership between WordPress and SocialVibe is a great way to provide some passive income to a good cause, without irritating readers.
Setup is a piece of cake and easily done with a couple of clicks, but you can check the documention if you need more help. Self-hosted WordPress bloggers, there's a SocialVibe plugin for you too.
