The Security Forest in the Corporate Trees

My Zune is my life and I want it back NOW!

I got up early today.  I want my Zune back.  I want it NOW!!!!

I have an iPod; isn't that enough?  No.  Why is my Zune so important to me?  The management software is nice.  The screen is big and bright.  The speed of access to my dated 'albums' is nice.  It just rocks when riding a motorcycle thanks to that simple rocker-clicker switch.

The official story is a timing issue in the internal clock and this year's leap year issues.  That doesn't matter to me.  I am a music-grubbing, self-centered customer who only wants his music.  I'm told charging the Zune and resyncing it will fix everything.  We'll see about that.

The battery is totally dead.  This doesn't look good.  Let's snap it in.

Waiting.  Waiting.  Recharging symbol is displayed prominently...  Wait for it!  A-ha!  The boot sequence begins.  The boot 'line' begins crawling from left to right.  Yesterday?  The line would stop at the very end, and then the only music is that finger-snapping, steady-beat of the drive whirring all the battery capacity away.  Wait for it!

What?  My initial menu is there.  My custom background, my wildly wonderful Kawasaki motorcycle, is there.  And now, wait for it!  The Zune software begins synching my Zune and loading onto it the 'Learn German' podcasts (Podkasten?) to the box.

It's working and charging, as promised, Gott sei Dank!  Let me know your experiences in a response.  And if you want to talk about iPod virtues too, I got some comments for that too.

What People Are Saying

Please tell me you really don't ride...

...and try to use your Zune too? When you inevitably wreck you're going to be a stat that will cause the helmet Nazis to come out full force. Use your ugly Zune to your heart's content, but please just turn it on and leave it alone while riding.

Sure do!

I like to ride. I like to listen to old 70's music. I have my Zune in my shirt pocket. The controls are easy to find and to activate, withOUT taking yer eyes off the road or keeping your finger from the controls for more than a second... I also play it at moderate volume, so I can hear road noise. I also scan the surroundings visually to avoid surprises.

I also ride with a helmet. I think the true solution to rider injury is Rider Training. You want to ride without a helmet? Your business. I can only hope that your State has rider training. Learning fast and effective braking is much better than putting a helmet on someone and hoping that it protects in all accident situations.

Zune, ugly??? I find it 'functional'. It won't have a chrome backing that gets scratched too easily or an over smooth surface that blurs with any type of contact with anything.

Keep the rubber side down and give Zune a chance...

mp3 while riding?

Yikes, hope you aren't wearing earbuds while driving a motorcycle! It's illegal in most states to drive with both ears covered with buds or phones, not to mention dangerous!

Dangerous is a relative term, I guess

I appreciate your concern, but riding a bike is in and of itself, "dangerous". Having a little music seems ok to me. I do wear a helmet. Ultimately, biking is about personal choice and taking prudent measures. Thanks for leaving a thoughtful comment.

Hmm?

You can wear ear buds and a helmet at the same time. What are you talking about?

zune

we woke up this morning and found our zune to be dead. ours wont even turn on!!!! ive read everyones notes and it dont seem that anyone is having the same problem as me. it worked fine yesterday. we didnt take it with us lastnight either. it sat at home. we did nothing to it and now its broke. shit.... how the hell do u even contact them caus i cant find a way to do that. any help would be great. thanks

Sorry to read of your problem

This seems unrelated to the problem the world had. Can I offer a suggestion? Plug it into your PC and give it a charge for a half hour. Try to start it then. Maybe the battery is that drained that it will need some coaxing.

Let us know how this goes.

P.S. Sounds silly, but as you try to start it, put the Zune close to your ear so that you can hear if the drive is spinning at least.

My Zune Froze at midnight

We had over 5000 requests for support on the freeze of my zune.
Lots of fixes, lots of debate on why it happened.

This is excellent work

My thanks to your team for putting together great help for the Zune Community. Feel free to post some of your group's findings...
