Momma Pajama is not your friend

Checking email obsessively on a Sunday morning, I got a message from MySpace saying "Momma Pajama wants to be friends."

Spam, of course. But I like to keep an eye on these things to see what the dark side is up to, so I clicked. And got to the following page:

The page immediately prompted me to load a "Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool" -- clearly a Trojan in disguise.

This sort of thing isn't new to MySpace. Last January, a similarly hacked profile urged gullible visitors to download a "Windows Update" that was in fact a piece of malware called Tfactory, a well known Trojan. In that attack, if you clicked anywhere on that MySpace page it would install the malware.

I don't know what's behind this malware attack yet, whether it's related to the ones earlier this year, or how widespread it is. But a word to the wise (or the overly curious): Don't click. You'll be sorry.

Have you seen any nasty/fascinating scams lately? Post them below or email me: dan (at) dantynan (dot) com.

When not drinking coffee and reading his email on Sunday mornings, Dan Tynan tends his blog, Tynan on Tech.

I've seen those

I've seen those.

I've even seen the windows update ones, but I'm using Linux so it was quite obvious what it was.
