SANTA BARBARA, CALIF. -- Two authors plan to launch on Tuesday a new blog about digital nomads who'd rather work at places like Starbucks than office buildings. They plan to publish a book on the same subject next year. Both the blog, and the book, are called "Coffee Shop Office."
The authors are taking an interesting approach to gathering data for their book. They're launching an ongoing survey Tuesday, that will gather data for both blog and book. The book will be a "look at the world of java commuting with interesting facts, interviews with java commuters, survey result highlights, and resources for becoming the ultimate java commuter," according to a press release announcing the launch event, which takes place at a coffee place in Vancouver.
The blog and book are tapping into a real and accelerating phenomenon, where people are wondering why they're showing up to an office every single day, when all the tools they use in that office are available in mobile versions.
My view is: The best thing about working in a coffee shop is that you can work in any coffee shop (i.e., the world is your office).
One of the authors is a career coach named Gregg Taylor, and the other is writer and researcher Lori Thiessen. Both live in Vancouver, Canada.
I applaud the "Coffee Shop Office" concept and look forward to the launches.
The blog will launch at the Web site www.coffeeshopoffice.com.
