iPhone coming to Scandinavia, Poland, Korea, Brazil?

Little clues in the latest iPhone SDK reveal that the iPhone will soon be set for input use from the following languages: Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Polish, Korean and Portuguese (Brazil). This is in addition to the English, French, German, Italian and Russian which the current iPhones have.

The SDK (2.0 240D) released to beta testers this week by Apple include language input files from these new countries, but there are no new carrier files that would out which specific carriers would receive the iPhone. For instance, there is a carrier file (which contains APN setting strings) for TIM out of Italy. It stands to reason that TIM's customers in Italy will soon be able to get the iPhone.

Does this mean that the iPhone is coming to the other countries that have input support for their native language? Both Italian and Russian existed on the previous iPhone software without announcements that the iPhone would be available in those countries.

According to The iPhoneblog, it seems pretty likely that this information means upcoming iPhone support. Curiously, Korean is included but Apple's biggest market outside of the US and likely 3G iPhone recipient, Japan, isn't included. Neither is the biggest market in the world, China/Chinese.

Does this mean the the iPhone will be coming out in Korea first in the Asia/Pacific region? And when will we see Russian and Italian iPhones?

So many questions....

What People Are Saying

The lack of chinese and

The lack of chinese and japanese language support could mean, that these countries start with a complete different version of the iPhone. There is no need to implement these languages in the current software, when you don't want to roll out a gadget with this software.

All sources i heard from, concerning the japanes market, made perfektly clear, that an iPhone without 3G is dead on the water, as far as japan ist concerned.

Proof of official unlocked iPhone

If you think the Mac OS X already comes with all those languages, you'll realise that they were not all the iPhone in the first place because files occupy space and space is scarce in the iPhone.

For me - and the latest beta shows Portuguese (Portugal), Spanish and many languages with non-roman characters - this is proof Apple is going to start selling the iPhone unlocked *outside* of the US.

No 'American' is going to bring an unlocked iPhone from abroad because it is so much more expensive and they can simply unlock one they buy at home.

Apple doesn't care, iPhones abroad will be so much more expensive than at home, Apple's profit! They've seen people spending loads to get one.

They are probably announcing they are going to sell the iPhone with one price when locked for a network and at a higher price when unlocked for all networks.

Think about it. Think different.
