Keep an "eye" on this optical storage

In this CW article it was reported that several manufacturers are planning to market hardware and media based on the new blue laser optical disk technology. Personally, I like the idea of optical media as a backup storage medium as long as the media can withstand the test of time. I find optical media safer and more durable than tape since it is not subject to data loss via strong magnetic fields. Sure tape has proven itself time and again but it’s time to give optical a look (pardon the pun) as a reliable backup medium.
