RAID for novices
As more and more network storage devices are marketed towards home users for multimedia use, RAID levels will raise question marks for an increasing numbers of buyers.
In a nutshell, a RAID array is a bunch of disks connected to a RAID controller. RAID stands for Redundant Array of Independent Disks.
Disks are connected to a RAID array for the purposes of increased performance and/or increased fault tolerance. RAID arrays also give you the added benefit of combining multiple drives into one contiguous space, which makes disk space management easier.
