Security Matters

Teaching the next generation of security pros

A known issue amongst security professionals is the training of the next generation of security practitioners.  Most of us taught ourselves and know that there's got to be a better way to learn about security.  Now a school in Rome, N.Y. is taking steps to train their students in security.

They've worked with the Air Force to create a ten-week program that teaches students not only how to protect their home systems, but also the basics of firewalls, malware and forensics.  The skill set the student is learning gives them a huge boost in a possible career.  And if they never go into the security field, at least they'll know enough to protect themselves from the average virus or worm.  I wonder what it would take to start a program like this at one of my local high schools?
