I couldn't help but laugh to myself when I received the following in my spam box this morning:

There was some contact information at the bottom of the email I'm not going to include for obvious reasons.  I find it incredible that spammers and the supporting industry are becoming so brazen that they're using their own tools to advertise themselves.  I haven't tried any of the contacts myself, but I have this funny feeling that if I tried to IM either of the contacts listed in the email, I'd find my computer infected with malware.  I also suspect I'd be automatically added to any number of mailing lists if I sent an email to the contract address.

The fact that I received an email like this tells me that the owners of botnets are either looking beyond their traditional market for customers or using this as a way to lure in the curious and unsuspecting.  If botherders think they can advertise their services this openly, then they are either very sure or themselves or incredibly stupid.  Using spam like this to advertise your ownership of a botnet is just asking to be investigated.  If this is just a lure to get the curious to infect themselves, then maybe the curious will be getting what they deserve.  Unluckily, once they're part of the botnet, their computers will be used to further the spam efforts, and we'll be receiving more emails like this.
