Security Matters

I'm looking for a new long distance company

AT&T has decided to rewrite their privacy policy in such a way that makes my call records theirs, not mine.  They've worded the policy in such a way as to make it clear that their number one priority is the protection of their business and my privacy is just going to have to go away if it interferes.  While I admire their bluntness and honesty, there is no way I can continue doing business with AT&T.

It doesn't take a genius to see where AT&T is headed with this change in policy.  Given the lawsuit the Electronic Frontier Foundation is currently pressing against AT&T, this change in policy is clearly aimed at preventing further such lawsuits by consumers.  But it also makes it clear that AT&T will no longer need the government to supply a subpeona to get your phone records.   Not that  they ever turned down the government in the first place.

I don't have a lot of recourse in the situation.  As far as I can tell, there are no laws against the changes AT&T is making to their privacy policies.  So there is only one recourse I can take, voting with my money.  Which is going to be hard in my area, since they are currently responsible for a majority of the services available to me.  But this is a big enough issue that I'm willing to take the time to find alternatives.

While there are many long

While there are many long distance calling plans, it is wise to check out as many as possible in order to get the best rate. One thing you may want to consider is Long Distance Pre-Paid Calling Cards.

International Long Distance

International Long Distance Calling Did you know that the number of international long distance calls from the United State very high also the international long distance telephone service are going lower and lower in price.
Many companies offer Cheap International Calling Card - Long Distance unique prepaid international long distance service offers cheap calling card rates that you can use from any phone even your cell phone

I too am looking for an

I too am looking for an alternative to A T & T so Googling brought me to this thread. Unless I missed something when reading through the posts, no one has actually made a suggestion for an alternative other than VOIP. Alternatives to traditional phone service are not an option for me, so I'm looking for a traditional competitor. A T & T has gradually moved my long distance and 800 number rate to 99-cents per minute which means that I basically can't afford to do business that way. Has competition in phone service gone the way of the dinosaur??

Primus can provide you with

Primus can provide you with a rate plan of 3.8 cents per minute for interstate calling and toll-free numbers.

"AT&T has decided to rewrite

"AT&T has decided to rewrite their privacy policy in such a way that makes my call records theirs, not mine."

So they could even sell the list of the companies you contact most often on to third party bulk mail marketers?

I'm not an expert, in fact I'm oblivious to the privacy laws in the States, but from the posts I've read it seems there's different laws and overseeing bodies for different sectors. Is this the case? If so, wouldn't it not be a much better (and very obvious) idea to bring it all under one domain overseen by one organisation?

Again from what I've read and I might be totally wrong, but why shouldn't individuals and companies have the same rights and responsibilities when it comes to privacy? Individuals being, staff, customers, share holders, outsourced firms and their staff and so on.

Martin, this does not

Martin, this does not surprise me. I knew it was going to get worse. With a huge company with that much capital, they can do just about anything.

Have you ever thought about VOIP? Not only are your phone records yours, but your telephone conversations are secure, as well. The company I work for is a fully managed voice, data and internet solution with free long distance. It also doubles as a comprehensive disaster recovery plan. Please email me for more information.

I am also looking for any

I am also looking for any alternative to AT&T services. An interesting quote from the Santa Cruz Sentinal says that AT&T plans to "collect customers user names, passwords, charges, payments and online purchases. It will also track their clicks while on sites that AT&T operates in a partnership with Yahoo Inc."
A newsletter I get also stated AT&T will be monitoring channel usage in their new TV service and offer advertising to customers based on their viewing habits.
I would like to know if this is all true, Please let me know if you find out more.

Your right, AT&T's "save my

Your right, AT&T's "save my government (illegal) relations and the hell with my customers" is a very slippery slope - And one that I do NOT want to be a part of. Please let me know what "Customer Friendly" company you go with...!!!!
