Browsezilla - apparently the Godzilla of evil browsers

According to this story, the makers of browsezilla, a free web browser, are advertising it as a privacy protection tool.  Huh?  The browser apparently has a silent "clicker" to increase the hit count for specific adult websites.  The user is unaware of what is going on.

That is completely evil and I can't imagine anyone falling for it, except the people who believe everything they read.  The truth is that people often download stupid software from the world wide web, believing the promise that the software will  "optimize bandwidth" or allow "anonymous surfing".  The innocents are unaware that the promises to do something for you are tricks to get you to install adware and spyware.

Hopefully in the corporate environment, regular users are not allowed to install any software.  Hopefully in the corporate environment, web filtering is in place so regular users cannot even access a site that contains pornographic advertising and the like.

In our environment, having pornography on your computer is grounds for dismissal.  Regular users do not have the rights to install any software on their computers.  Our power users can and they are the ones that could fall prey to such a ploy.  And there are people who work here that are so Internet-savvy-less, that I could see them falling for it.

The Internet is just not a safe place.  Let's just cut off Internet access for everyone.  <jk>
