I really want a national ID run by corporations (NOT!)
The thought of a national ID created and run by a consortium of businesses sends shivers down my spine. Luckily this idea is being pushed in the United Kingdoms at this time, not here in the US. But if it takes hold, I bet businesses here in the US wouldn't be too far behind in pushing for the same thing.
I'm not a big fan of the idea of a national ID card, but I do believe it's something that will come some day in the future. But I want it run by the government, not some group of for-profit companies. The government has the welfare of it's constituents as its main concern, at least in theory. Businesses are concerned with the next quarter's profits, both in theory and in practice. Is it too far of a stretch to think that businesses would use their influence over a national ID system to their own ends? I don't think so.
