Podcast #3 - Tim Chou sees vertical applications driving SaaS revolution
- IT TOPICS:Software
Dr. Timothy Chou knows a few things about the software business and he foresees the move to software-as-a-service as the end of software as we know it.
In this podcast interview, Dr. Chou will preview his opening keynote remarks at SaaScon, the business-to-business event for software-as-a-service, coming up Sept 25 and 26 in San Francisco.
Chou was president of Oracle's On-Demand business from 1999 to 2005 and his book, "The End of Software : Transforming Your Business for the On Demand Future," foresees a radical shift in software economics. The cost-efficiency of SaaS will enable many smaller, vertical solutions to sprout up, giving users more choice in application and vendor selection. For the next several years, the industry will look much like the PC industry of the 1980s, with a large number of players competing in niches. The issues in SaaS have changed from operational to transformational. It's no longer about running software but about the software itself.
