Update: It isn't HD and it's crappy to boot!

As I wrote in my previous article "What's wrong with this picture? 4:3 is NOT HDTV", my friend is looking to buy a new 27"ish TV.

He recently went to Circuit City to check out the Samsung not quite HD 26" TV and came back with this to say "Samsung's TV is a sham of a travesty of a mockery of HDTV". In other words, not only is it not HDTV, but apparently it's a crappy display to boot.

Compared to his old Panasonic regular 4:3 CRT he found the Samsung to be quite lacking and not worth the $600.

He did see a Sharp 26" widescreen HDTV (yes it's 720 capable and so is truly HD) and thought it was pretty nice. Not too bad at $750 either.

At any rate, I hope that Samsung gets bitten twice, once for trying to play fast and loose with their branding and again for putting out a subpar product.

WOW!! Am I ever glad I stumbled across this site. I definatly willl stop looking at Samsung, in my search for a plasma TV. That should narrow the playing field a bit. What I am looking at right now is the 50" Vizio Plasma HDTV with Tuner, I would love to hear some feed back on this perticular brand and model, if anyone has anything to say, good or bad. Thanx

Just surfed in on this

Just surfed in on this comment. As the owner of a Samsung POS! 30" widescreen CRT, and a 32" Sharp Aquos LCD, I can wholeheartedly say, "SAMSUNG IS !@#$" and never to buy them.

My CRT has been repaired once under warranty, and is already screwed up again. No problems in a year with the Sharp Aquos LCD (which, like all LCD's, looks better from afar than right up on it.)

Tell your friend to buy the Sharp! :)

If I didn't think his opinion was trustworthy on the subject I wouldn't post it. Remember he was initially very interested in purchasing the unit which is why he went to look at it in the first place, so it is noteworthy that the quality of the picture turned away a potential buyer and not just someone like me who would be skeptical from the get go just based on Samsung's onerous marketing claims.
