Does a CPA make more than an

Does a CPA make more than an accounts payable/receivable specialist, staff accountant ...? Do all staff accountants make the same at equal seniority?

IT is not a homogeneous field. Some make 4 times more than others based on the IT skill set. In addition, IT training expires quickly, and is not for the mere mortal.

Furthermore, IT professionals are typically Engineering, Math, computer science graduates... Oftentimes, they are accountants working on Financial packages too, earning themselves much more than you mentioned.

IT folks: Please stop whining about your salary and take it up with your bosses or contact recruiters. If you can not find employment, it may be time for additional training or a change of IT fields.

I dont know why IT people

I dont know why IT people are complaing about their salary.. You guys earn more than $60k/year with a BA/BS degree.. compare to other such as accountant, Lab tech.,....etc..they paid only $35K/year( in the beginning)

I have a tough time with

I have a tough time with these reports as my career and skill set never seems to fit anywhere.

I'm a communication and training specialist at a financial services company in the Midwest. I serve as part of a project delivery team. My role is to ensure end-users are prepared for whatever's coming their way through strategic change communication (print, online, in-person, creative media) and training (online, instructor-led).

Yes, I'm a trainer. I determine what should be trained and how to train it. I write the documentation, develop online training, and deliver classroom training.

But I bring much more than that. I consult the project team about resistence to their deliverables and how to overcome them. I create pursuasive communications designed to increase change acceptance.

There's an art and a science to what I do. The problem is that my personality doesn't seem to fit the IT profile. They don't really 'get' what it is I'm all about. They can't categorize or compare me. And I feel that costs me $$$.

I've read in this magazine that IT professionals with business background and understanding are supposed to be very valuable. I spent 14 years of my career on the business side of my company. Believe me, I understand what they're all about!

Right now I'm making just below $50k. According to your survey, Technical Trainers make over $60k. Thoughts?

Hello, I have 10+ years exp

Hello, I have 10+ years exp in IT both from a management side and a data center operations/security perspective. I have yet to find a job after being laid off by HP, and I am starting to grow very much tired and frustrated by even the lack of phone calls in regards to interest in my skills. I have slated 75k for pay... Which is only a match to what I made with HP.

I Live in Texas in the greater north dallas area. I'm so confused... itosupportlead at gmail.com

What do you think I should be making going into my second year as the systems administrator?

Reflecting on the security

Reflecting on the security positions. It depends on the person with the level of experience they have, certification, degrees, and background including if they have a clearance.

I am graduating from Johns Hopkins University with a Masters in Security Informatics, a bachelors in Computer Science, I have my CISSP, I have a clearance and have worked for the 4 years in systems administrative/IT functions including half a year now for the DoD. I am going to come on for $49,000.

What should I be getting paid?

But similar folks can make $70-$100K starting out. Contractors will pay more at times even. I think this area (DC/Baltimore) is a bit more saturated with IA/Info Sec. professionals.

Hank - what area are you in and who do you work with? I know several Hopkins students past, present, future, and those attending other universities you might find useful to chat with. jhoeckl _at_ wou _dot_ edu where you convert _dot_ to . and _at_ to @. :)
