A Daily Digest of IT Blogs from Richi Jennings

Card theft, targeted Trojans, FOSS mag, Longhorn sky falling, and more...

All your credit cards are belong to us, say spyware criminals who found a weak link in the transaction processing chain: CardSystems Solutions. Mark Hall notices that "Solutions" equals Problems. Arno Wagner suggests a cunning non-technical solution. Sharon Machlis asks if card companies need to convince their customers that they're safe. SecurityMonkey jokes, "At this rate, we may all be back on the barter system before we know it." Mod-Blog says security is not just job #1, it's their only job. Frank Hayes hopes we had a pleasant weekend.

UK business targeted by Trojans, warns gov.uk's National Infrastructure Security Coordination Centre [sic]. (I've written about the NISCC before, here and here.) MessageLabs noticed this earlier. Jaikumar Vijayan talks to MessageLabs and others. The Division Of Labour [sic] blog thinks it's "pretty ugly." Brian Krebs of The Washington Post calls the warning "unusually dire," reminding people:

Never open, accept or download an e-mailed file or click on a Web link in an instant message if it comes from someone you don't know -- and even if you do know them, don't open it unless you know what the file or link is and were expecting it. If it comes from someone you know and you weren't expecting it, contact the sender by phone, e-mail or reply back to the message and ask what they're asking you to look at.

The oh-so-imaginatively-named free software magazine, "Free Software Magazine," includes contributions from Martin Brown and John Goerzen. Open source content management app., Drupal will do Firefox-style advertising in the mag.

Sky falling... pictures at 11, says Russ Cooper. Seems that Longhorn's error reporting tool tells Microsoft a lot more than it used to. Breathlessly reported with no critical analysis whatsoever by Bink.nu and Kevin Francis. My take: of course it does, it's in beta!

Buffer overflow:

And finally... How to make your own tornadoes.
