SAP gets some stars from Oracle
Oracle's two most important employees are Larry Ellison and Andy Mendelsohn, and neither of them is going to SAP any time soon. But SAP's executive hiring spree is deepening its collection of ex-Oracle stars. The most important is probably Dennis Moore, who's been there for a while and is responsible for a huge chunk of their xApps efforts. Nimish Mehta, recently hired, is another star; it's hard to imagine the NetWeaver engine technologies going too far astray on his watch.
But more important than even Nimish may be Dan Rosenberg, founder and head of Oracle's Usability Lab. The biggest thing keeping SAP from conquering the analytics world is its BI user interface. Dan Rosenberg radically improved Oracle's UIs when he arrived -- especially in tools, and most particular in BI -- and he's a good bet to do the same thing at SAP.
I haven't spoken with Dan for years, and maybe time has passed him by a little bit. But if it hasn't, this move is not good news for the independent BI industry.
