Exchange tool found

I wrote this post here yesterday on my quest to find a tool that would allow me to quickly change permissions on all inbox subfolders for a specific user's Exchange mailbox.

Well, I'm happy to write that I did indeed find one. The name of the product is Symprex Folder Permission Manager and it's available to download as a free 30-day trial.

It certainly did the trick, although with the trial version, I had to create a distribution list with the user in question in order to select them to change the permissions. The trial version will only let you access the first five names on a given address list such as the Exchange Global Address List.

If I was in an organization that was larger where it was necessary to do this sort of thing more often, perhaps it would be worth the $800 per admin price tag, but unfortunately, we don't do massive folder changes frequently enough to warrant the purchase.

Use of the software was worthy of a blog post though, and there it is. :)

I should mention that to avoid having to do this sort of thing in the future, I gave the proper rights to a distribution list instead of to an explicit set of users. Probably a good idea to do this when creating mailboxes as all new subfolders automatically copy the rights of the folder they are created under.
