Security Matters

Guess what, the TJX compromise was bigger than initially revealed

I guess we probably shouldn't be surprised, but it now turns out that the compromise at TJX that was much bigger than initially reported.  Much, much bigger.

If you've ever shopped at any of the TJX stores, you might be affected by this breach.  There was data exposed as far back as 2003, before TJX started encrypting the data, though they state they have no reason to believe PIN's or other sensitive information were compromised.  Which is, of course, the same old line we hear from every company when a compromise like this is revealed.  This is pure nonsense though, since it's impossible to prove a negative.

It's pure public relations hype for companies like TJX to initially under-report compromises.  But TJX initially held off for months in reporting this breach, because there was an investigation going on.  So how is it they didn't discover the additional information loss until just now?
