A new security threat? Copy that!
- IT TOPICS:Security
Looks like there's something else some of us will have to worry about. This article points out that most newer photocopier models - those that are equipped with internal hard drives - can pose a security threat. Because these copiers record duplicated material on their hard drives, there is the possibility that criminals can get access to it. Hard drives have been a feature of most photocopies for the past five years, and so far we haven't heard about widespread abuse. Yet a survey by copy manufacturer, Sharp revealed that more than half those surveyed had no idea their duplicated material was being stored on the copier hard drive. For those who use a scanner/printer combo at home this probably isn't an issue, but folks who use public library, school, cafe and printer service photocopiers, ought to think twice before hitting the copy button.
