Fujitsu Eternus - well-kept secret series
- IT TOPICS:Storage
I am going to try to post one of these a week. If you recall I was going to use this blog as a way to share with you storage products that you probably haven't heard about. How many of you knew that Fujitsu is in the primary Enterprise storage business? That they are the number two storage vendor in Japan? That is fairly interesting but the real shocker is that they have a number of capabilities that are quite impressive. First, they support a clustered storage architecture. They are one of the few FC-based storage system vendors that support an N-way true cluster. A true N-way cluster is the ability to add more storage controllers into the cluster and have it be a single logical system that aggregates all of its hardware resources.
Other cool things about the Eternus is that is supports RAID 6, native encryption on disk and in flight, remote replication over iSCSI, snapshots, and they can move data transparently between different internal tiers, and they support MAID. Fujitsu Eternus has a lot of interesting features and functions and it is widely deployed in Japan and there are hundreds in North America. Fujitsu is focusing on building its business in the US. Why do we need yet another storage player? Its always important to have options. And the Eternus has capabilities that are worth looking into. I haven't evaluated the Eternus or spoken to any end users that have implemented it - so keep that in mind. I intend to do both at some point to validate their claims. It is interesting that they have some great capabilities that I have been yelling at the well known storage guys to support - such as N-way clustering - probably one of the most valueable technologies in storage that very few vendors support.
