Why can't Comcast run DNS servers?

Comcast may be able to run a cable business, but when it comes to running DNS servers, they're less than competent. According to Broadband Reports, Comcast customers have been complaining that because of Comcast DNS woes, they're unable to surf the Web.

This isn't the first time this happened. Two years ago, Comcast proved incapable of running its DNS servers, and many people, including me, couldn't get to Web sites.

I learned from the past, and so this time around, I surf the Web without any problems, even with Comcast's DNS woes. That's because I don't use Comcast's DNS servers. Instead, I use a great free DNS service so Comcast DNS incompetence should never affect me again. If you'd like to find out how to use the service, check out my article, Hack DNS for lightning-fast Web browsing.

If you're a Comcast customer having problems, I suggest following my advice. You won't be bedeviled by Comcast DNS incompetence again.

As far as Comcast carrying The Ski Channel, does anyone know if they will?

Comcast DNS slow!

I recently began having problems with my Comcast cable internet service. I could see from the messages in the browser that the delay was in resolving the hostnames, i.e. DNS. I called "tech support" and told the person that, they acted as if I had said nothing at all, had me do the power on/off thing, of course it didn't help.

I should have known not to bother calling them,
there's no point talking to their "tech support" people, they know nothing and just read off a script they're given. They'll tell you any ridiculous reasons for the problem you're having. The service has gone out for about 15-20 minutes several times and when you call about that, they never have any knowledge of the outage

I've been having similiar

I've been having similiar DNS issues as well. I'm glad it's not just me. Time to start blogging about it.

I've actually has stellar

I've actually has stellar internet and cable services from comcast. seems like this site i stumbled on is a rouge site for people that like to bash companies like comcast. Doesn't anyone remember the AT@T experience?

Comcast poor customer service

Nope sir, I beg to disagree with you. Comcast should let China run their company for them. They focus too much on stupid commercials and lack the know-how and politeness to attract and retain customers. I have had horrible, horrible experiences with this 3rd class company, that it is shameful.Tonight, they lost a customer in Indianapolis, IN. The issues could have been resolved quietly with no incidence but their customer service ineptitude became disruptive, leading them to loose this loyal customer of many years. Management at COMCAST should sit up to market branding and learn ways to gain competitive advantage in the market begining with training their front line staff. There is nothing COMCASTIC about this company.

You've been quite lucky if

You've been quite lucky if you've been trouble free. I've been trying to track down an issue with my Comcast line for days. I've had similar problems in the past as well. I'll have normal cable speeds in the morning, then no service at night. Sometimes my service will go out 4-5 times in a day. A recent hour long call I made to Comcast tech support solved nothing. Through my own research, I've figured out that Preston Gralla is right on. Comcast's name servers, or lack thereof, are indeed the culprits. My modest understanding is that they have a poorly serviced, insufficient backbone for the number of customers they service. Adding to this the issues they have with DNS, amounts to unreliable connectivity at best. I'll try the link you suggested Preston. Thanks for the help.

I had a similar problem with

I had a similar problem with comcast and their intermittent disconnects. With no helpful information from their staff I realized that the modem was cheaply made and over heating. Long story short the problem was solved and the modem operated in the fridge. Thats comcastic! Now the internet Gods have blessed my city with cheap, fast, super reliable utopia fiber optics. I now put "high speed" internet connections like cable and dsl in the 56k category. Of course utopia is not available in cities where comcast has office buildings, makes me wounder how much they spent to buy off some city officials. What a comcastic way to run a business.

Comcast | The poor Choice in Communication's

I have to agree, I have had comcast for several years based on them being the only provider on some of the area i have lived. Comcast for the most part has the right idea in what to provide and how to do it. Unfortunately comcast like many other large companies has lost sight in what it takes and how they have gotten to where they are. Comcast lacks communication throughout their company this being the largest reason for set backs and issues with consumer accounts. I too have experienced issues with their DNS setup on the business side of things and it has proven to be messy. Comcast has one major faulty - They do not listen to their customers. I don't believe any one here is bashing Comcast as a whole simply sharing their experiences - As this is a free country and expression to such is your choice and right. Honestly - go to google and search "Comcast Reviews" and you too will see this site is nothing in comparison to what is returned. Comcast is and always will be responsible for their downfalls - no one can fix it but Comcast. And is the severity of comments listed across the web effecting customers all over the US one trend remains a constant though out time " They have yet to even attempt to improve on there issues "! Their record speaks for its self plain and simple. Comcast is a decent TV Service Provider and should stick to what they now simply put. Its like going to the Supermarket and Choosing to Bank with one of their in store Banks - You always have issues. Adding to the fact that "you should bank where you buy Bananas" Same story here, you should expect great service for internet or phone from a company who only knows Cable TV.
