Make it a WeatherMac
- IT TOPICS:Applications, Macintosh
I can confess now to being a weather junkie. If there's a storm abrewin', I like to keep an eye on the sky -- and on the local radar. How better to be able to warn friends and co-workers that bad weather is on the way than by pointing to a brightly colored radar map? So along comes Radar in Motion, a free dashboard widget that as of today is no. 2 on the list of most popular widget downloads on Apple's Web site.
This little widget grabs radar images from weather.com, and will even play them in animated form so you can tell which way storms are moving based on your zip code. You can have it update automatically or only when you decide to do so, and you can choose different radar views.
Best of all, it's the kind of widget that's likely to have me using dashboard more. I don't know about you, but when Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" first came out, I played with dashboard for a few days, ooohing and aaahing over the graphics like a kid with a new toy. But I gradually found myself using it less and less. This widget might just reverse that trend.
