Crime and punishment, Internet style!

I was glad to see this USA Today article "17 indicted for array of Internet crimes", because it reinforces my belief that thieves like those mentioned here can and will be held responsible. We all know the dangers of online commerce and communications, but how many of us can ignore it in today's world? Because it is such an inherent part of our lives, Internet safety has to remain one of the top priorities for law enforcement. An investigation that spanned two years finally culminated in indictments and incarceration of these people. What I found most appalling was the way these miscreants (and even a corporation) operated so brazenly. At one of their websites they called themselves "The International Association for the Advancement of Criminal Activity." Their lawyer claims prosecutors are being vindictive toward his clients. If the prosecutors are operating within the rules of law, I say, yeah, so?

What People Are Saying

I too was glad to see this

I too was glad to see this operation closed down. My thought though is: Why the very long 2 year investigation and why did so many during this time have to get hurt because of their activity? I do not know if this was the group that got a hold of our credit card numbers, but it sure caused us a lot of worry and time, spent unraveling the mess created. I sometimes think the middle eastern way of justice, is the way to go, Convict on Friday and chop heads (like in off) on Monday. And charge the guilty for room and board for the week-end!!!!!
