Gartner Inc. on the prowl for acquisitions again
- IT TOPICS:Management
Will Yankee Group, AMR or Tower Group be gobbled up? IT research behemoth Gartner Inc. -- having recently digested Meta Group -- is apparently hungry for another acquisition. Outsell Inc. reports:
In an SEC filing related to a stock-buyback plan, Gartner dropped an interesting tidbit of information this week: "In the ordinary course of business, Gartner evaluates acquisition opportunities. At the present time, we are reviewing opportunities in the $50 million to $100 million range, and recently submitted a preliminary proposal for one such opportunity."
Outsell analyst Louise Garnett says "Yankee Group, AMR Research, and Tower Group are the conspicuous companies in that [financial] range." However, she says a likelier target would be a consulting firm that could help Gartner "cement its focus on CIOs of large organizations."
