Google group on law blogging

It's interesting how sometimes things fall into your lap, or email account at exactly the right time.

My law firm (Tomlinson Zisko LLP) is in the process of really putting an emphasis on how each attorney markets themselves and the firm. Basically, they are trying to get more projects by developing existing clients through networking/relationship building, to get new types of projects from current clients through cross-selling and to gain customers through networking/relationship building, particularly in vertical markets like real estate, etc.

It sounds to me like one of the things they will be trying to use in this process are blogs. After all, blogs are a great way to build relationships in an efficient manner. You still have to have face-time, particularly when in clients are ready to bite, but the web and blogs in particular really give companies and people a great way to show the world what they know, what they can do for clients and how they do it.

I'd say that a well written and informative site will get about 200 sets of eyeballs a day from 1 or 2 postings a week. That's versus 4 or 5 people paying attention to you over lunch or at a pitch session. So for getting your story out to new clients or really informing existing customers about what you do, blogging is a really good tool.

OK, back to the original reason for this post. Today I received an email from Geoffrey Gussis, a lawyer who blogs and also happened to start up a Google Group specifically for people in the legal industry who blog as well. He basically invited me to join this group. Which I did.

It just made sense to join given what I think TZ should be doing to further their web based identity or credentials, if you will. So if you are a blawger, as some like to call us, join in and let's see how we can all benefit from our collective experience.
