"My OS is better than your OS" debates can start sounding an awful lot like religious debates ... or political ones. And over the weekend, political and technology junkiedom collided on the left-leaning Daily Kos Web site, riffing off a blog post arguing that Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama is like a Mac.
The initial post wasn't meant as a compliment. Instead, it focused on Apple's great branding and buzz-generation skills, arguing that many of its products are overpriced and overrated.
It didn't take long for Mac/Obama fans to take exception.
"He's a Mac (Book Air) because he can soar to levels the other candidate can not," answered one supporter of both.
And then, people began giving their own matchups of candidates and technologies.
"Obama is betamax!" said one.
"No, Obama is streaming web video on iPod, while Clinton is the telegraph," responded another.
"Gravel is Linux?" asked another poster.
"More like a TRS80 if you ask me"
"No, Ron Paul is Linux."
"Interesting analogy. That would make John Edwards Novell NetWare. A better, cheaper product, than Windows Server, that doesn't sell anywhere near as well as it should."
As for me, I was disappointed no one compared Obama to Ruby on Rails :)
