AMD Bulldozer 16-core server CPUs "trounce" Intel Xeon

AMD (NYSE:AMD) has launched its new server CPU chips, some of which offer a whopping 16 cores -- or, at least, 16 threads. The Opteron 6200-series 'Interlagos' and 4200-series 'Valencia' products are supposedly better, faster, cheaper, and/or lower-power than the Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) Xeon equivalents, thanks to AMD's 'Bulldozer' architecture. Expect Microsoft to get royalties from Amazon's Kindle Fire

One of the surprise winners in today's announcement of the Kindle Fire should be Microsoft, which can expect to get significant royalties from what will likely be a hot-selling tablet. Microsoft has gone after other manufacturers of Android devices, and signed royalty agreements with them, including a deal today with Samsung. Expect one with Amazon to follow.
