Overcoming cloud fear: How to set up a server on EC2

Congrats to Dave Winer for coming up with a really, really simple explanation of how to set up a server on the Amazon EC2 cloud. One of the really interesting things about the rise of cloud computing and hosted applications is how accessible those services are to mere mortals instead of deep techies.

Setting up servers used to be a very involved process. The first step of actually trying to specify the server you want to use was usually sufficient to stop all but the most intrepid techies.

Be sure to listen to Dave's accompanying podcast of the installation process. Dave refers to it as EC2 for Poets and mentions the current world of shrinkwrap software in the sky as the first step to opening up a new world of software.
