PayPal breaks

I went to login at Paypal.com around 1:30PM ET today and the submission of my email address and password resulted in a "500 Internal Server Error".

This was with Firefox 3.51, so then I tried Internet Explorer 7 and purposely supplied the wrong password. Same thing. Then I tried the wrong email address to see if the problem was just my account -- it wasn't.

After a few more tries, the Internal Server Error was replaced with the announcement below that they are "sprucing things up" and the site will be down for roughly the next 14 hours.

Curious about the details, I clicked on the link to the PayPal Announcement Board. There weren't many details, as the screen shot below indicates.

Nothings perfect, that's to be expected. PayPal's website has been very reliable in the time I've used it. But, it's how a company deals with problems that shows what they are made of. Here's hoping they offer details...

Update 2:18PM ET The Announcement Board now says
****Login/Payment Issues****
We are aware that you currently may be unable to log into your PayPal account or to complete a payment. We apologize for any inconvenience this may be causing. Please note that we are working to resolve these issues as soon as possible and will provide further updates as they become available.

A screen shot is below

Update 3:38PM ET I was able to login to my Paypal account. The accouncements page hasn't been updated.

According to Techcrunch Paypal is providing more information on the problem to their developers

Update 7PM ET The warning about login problems was removed from the Paypal Announcement Board.

I have logged into Paypal.com a few times today and there was no announcement there are about the problems.

I don't think anyone expects perfection, certainly no one familiar with computers. But, customers are owed an explanation when things go wrong.

What People Are Saying

Paypal Problems

Had a Paypal Buyer Credit account since the month of April but could not add the account to my online account. Also never received the actual card, just a paper card with the account number and a customer service number. Called the number on 3 separate occasions. Whenever they tried to walk me through the process of adding my new account online, the link to add a Paypal credit card was always missing from the page. After finding there was no link I'd always get put on hold for awhile and they come back without any answers and be told that we are aware of the problem and we're working on it, but there's nothing we can do right now. Exact same thing happened 3 times: Once in May, once in June and again in July. After the third time, I cancelled the account because what is the use of you having all my personal information (SS#, address, email, passwords, etc) and I cannot even use the card??

Hopefully, they are fixing this right now.

PayPal

I just have a hard time believing that PayPal has no real competition to date. Some savy banking group could blow them away by decent customer service !

PayPal supports Fraud

SELLERS BEWARE!!!!

I have recently sold an item valued just under AUD 1000.00 to a buyer in Honolulu calling himself

alohamahalo,

he really is

Steven Lee at341 Puiwa Road,
Honolulu, HI 96817 USA,
email: ipo@hawaii.rr.com,

1703229587482006 RED BACK SPIDER 1oz SILVER PROOF COIN

After receiving the funds on my PayPal account, I thoroughly packaged and dispatched the item as registered mail as I always do.

Before I knew, this buyer escalated a claim with PayPal claiming that the merchandise was not meeting the description of my advertisement and that what he received was a different item of much lesser value.

PayPal using its discretionary powers, immediately took the funds previously paid for this item out of my account and paid this money back to this deceiving buyers account. All Steven Lee had to do was to proof to PayPal that he dispatched back to me what he claims to have received and he got his money back!!!

Me the SELLER am now extremely angry and out of pocket with no funds and no merchandise. I call this a fraud on a big scale in the name of Buyers Protection funded by the sellers.

Buyers Protection in eBay with Paypal support really works!!!!!!
