The World Is My Office

Pocket-size fuel cell charger for gadgets announced

SANTA BARBARA, CALIF. -- A company called MTI MicroFuel Cells announced a new fuel cell charger called Mobion, that will give you up to 25 hours of power for recharging cell phones, iPods, digital cameras or whatever gadgets need charging. The company claims it's the world's first with a removable cartridge.

According to the company, you can charge a cell phone ten times on a single charge. The Mobion charges pocket-size gadgets, and itself fits into a pocket. It's powered by a 100% methanol fuel-based chip, and is based on the proprietary intellectual property of a whopping 110 patents.

MTI MicroFuel Cells says the Mobion should ship by the end of next year. But a recent company regulatory filing says they have funds to survive only until the end of January unless they stop funding the fuel cell product (all current revenue comes from other business). The company gets funding from Samsung, and that company could inject more cash into MTI, or pursue an acquisition.

What People Are Saying

Great a they need a bail out

Great a they need a bail out package, cmon congress help 'em out

Hmm, I have a similar

Hmm, I have a similar concept. It is just as believable and seems like it can fill a realistic need. Only problem is I might not have enough money to make it to market. Can you spare some cash to help me? MTI and Medis have been promising things for almost a decade and have little to show for it. The only reason that Medis got their product out is that the investors told them to put up or leave. Until we see an actual technology on the market that makes a contribution then I would classify this as smoke.

Your money...

Mr. Skeptic:

Attached please find a check for $100M. Please develop the battery and ship 10,000 to me by Friday, January 29, 2010.

Thanks!

Now that looks like a very good idea and something long overdue!

Portable charger

This is the future of energy replacement. Medis Technologies already has one on the market: Xtreme 24/7 available on Amazon.com. It works and you can bring it on an airplane when you travel.

Others on on the way.
