Polishing the Chrome

Like most Internet users, I spend a significant amount of online time Googling stuff. I use other search engines too, but I do admit that Google is usually my go-to choice. Now we learn that the rumors were true: Google has launched their own Web browser, as well. And from all I've heard so far, it's not bad either.

I like to believe that a little competition is good -- especially from the consumer's standpoint -- and if that's the case, then according to Jefferson Graham in USA TODAY, "Google enters browser wars", Microsoft is going to get a run for it's money. He quotes Gene Munster, an analyst at Piper Jaffray, "Microsoft could lose even more market share if Google's browser takes off" and "if Google's Apps finally start to take off, the holy grail of Microsoft's business" — the Office suite, which includes Word, Outlook and Excel — "could take a real hit." I'm not saying we want to see that necessarily, but hey, when one thing outperforms another, the consumer will make that decision for his/herself. Internet Explorer's current market share of 75% may just get taken down a notch (or two). For now, I won't download it onto my other laptop (the "non-Mac"), I'll just wait and see what some friends have to report.
