President Obama's speech in the air on channel nine

Actually I didn't miss the entire inauguration speech. The pilot on my United flight from Boston to San Francisco today was able to get about the last five minutes on Channel Nine where you usually listen to the air traffic control chatter. The 10connect.com website in Tampa has a good list of technology firsts from inauguration speeches.
While airlines have been busy trying to bring Internet access to the passengers, the current offerings still seem too expensive to me. However, once I landed in San Francisco, I had plenty of choices to see and hear the speech from the President who intends to keep his Blackberry at hand, or hip as the case may be.Â
Creating a truly transparent government budget and voting process would be a technology goal worthy of any IT organization. In the last couple of years the transparency record has been lousy. Sarbannes-Oxley and the associated regulatory acts that were supposed to boost transparency didn't prevent the current financial meltdown.
The most transparent democratic process I have been involved in is also the least technology driven. The town meeting form of government which is alive and well in New England allows any town resident to get up and say what they think of the budget and when it is time to vote everyone gets to see which side of the issue you are on.Â
