Rackspace and Rackable head for the clouds

Rackspace an Rackable don't necessarily spring to mind when you are thinking about virtualization. But they should. Amid all the talk about Cisco, Sun and IBM this week, I almost overlooked two announcements from the rack gang. That would have been a mistake.

Rackable Systems in Fremont, California is on the forefront of rethinking how heat, power and cooling are delivered and controlled in the data center. Maybe the tech world didn't need one more product with cloud in the title, but CloudRack C2 is worth a look.

Not only has Rackspace been investing in buying, what I'd call, cloud enabled companies including JungleDisk and Slicehost, they've gone out and actually hired (or contracted, I'd guess) Mr. Cloud himself, Robert Scoble and his faithful videographer Rocky.
