SANTA BARBARA, CALIF. -- The GSM Association (GSMA) predicts the rollout of Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile broadband that delivers actual speeds of up to 100 Mbps in Japan and South Korea by 2010, Europe by 2012 and the U.S. by... well, he didn't say.
GSMA director of technology Dan Warren pointed out that LTE is capable of theoretical speeds of up to 186 Mbps, which is achievable only in the most ideal conditions.
How fast is that? Let's just say it's far, far faster than most people's DSL connections.
And the U.S.? We'll probably all have nuclear-powered flying cars before cell phone data connection speeds like that.
In other news, the GSMA reported that total mobile broadband users now top 50 million subscribers -- up from just 11 million one year ago.
