Hitting the Security Nerve

RSA Conference + Olympic Torch = Security Concerns

Are you going to the RSA Conference this week (heck, you might be there already)?  If so, you might be interested in the fact that the Olympic Torch will be making a stop there on Wednesday, April 9.  Do I mention this because it would be cool to go see the torch while you're in town?  That is one reason.  But the other reason is much more important, and it involves your security.

The Torch has been drawing protests across the world because of the controversial location of the Olympics this year (the games will be held in communist China, which has an abysmal human rights record).  The torch was extinguished 5 times during the Paris leg of the journey because they had to get on a bus with it to get it through the protests, and they finally ended up cancelling the last part of the trip through Paris.  Several people were arrested in the protests.

Now it is coming to San Francisco, which has a huge Chinese population.  So you might want to consider that in your plans on Wednesday.  I have been looking for a detailed map of how the torch will be traveling through San Francisco, but I have not found it yet.

[UPDATE: Thanks to Rocket Dog for leaving a comment with the info - guess I was being lazy :) ]

I am interested because a lot of us bloggers are going to be gathering on Wednesday night, and I want to know where this is going to be.  Most likely it will not be going around in the evening, but I still want to know. And I am not trying to start FUD here.  I really think this is something to consider.

BTW, the head of Information Security for the Beijing games will be speaking at the conference (the "Industry Expert" track).  I hope there won't be any protesters at the conference.  Keep a watch out for security hecklers in the audience!
