Seeing Through Windows

Rush Limbaugh to Steve Jobs: Fix my Mac!

There are plenty of Windows-haters out there, but Rush Limbaugh, the loudest of the loudmouths, isn't among them. The conservative talk-show host and all-around bloviator is getting on Steve Jobs' case because Limbaugh has been having serious problems with his four Mac Pros since he upgraded to Mac OS X 10.5.2.

On his show yesterday, Limbaugh complained that his Macs were no longer working properly, and he joked about making a direct appeal to Steve Jobs for help. Limbaugh posted the transcript on his Web site, and in it, he complains not only that the Macs aren't working properly, but that Mac tech support has been abysmal, at best.

Here's his complaint about the way he's been treated by tech support: "Nothing gets done! All use file reports and get lost in the Apple bureaucratic system -- and occasionally a good-intentioned, good-hearted Apple rep will get on the phone, try to solve it, and will say, 'Yep. It's the same problem I'm having on my machine.' They're having the same problem at Apple that I'm having here, but it's supposed to work."

Limbaugh, in the transcript, said he's considering making a direct appeal to Steve Jobs, even though Jobs supports Democrats, an anathema to Limbaugh. The talk-show host and his pals, by the way, seems to know that he himself may be an anathema to the tech-literate.

A Limbaugh employee jokes in the transcript that if Limbaugh manages to get through to Jobs and ask for help, "His reply is going to be, 'Mr. Limbaugh. Do us a favor and endorse Windows.'"

What People Are Saying

Apple Support is Poor

While no fan of Rush, I was pleased to see some documentation of others experiencing the poor Apple support I have also suffered. After purchasing a brand new MacBook Pro and accessories, the product never worked properly for me, and I had terrible difficulty reaching Apple and never able to get the system working or a refund.
Apple's support phone lines are often unreachable withing their support hours. They claim that they have so many people on hold, that if you call hours before closing and don't get through then disconnected, it's due to so many calls stacked up. They also said it was they increased call volume due to their new OS, but not sure if it's always been like this.
Once reaching Apple, folks are generally friendly and try to help; but are ineffective. After dozens of calls and run around (often escelating to managers) I was never able to get the problems fixed or get the machine exchanged for a refund. This went on for months.
I was planning on purchasing more Macs, but canceled those plans, and will apparently have to eat the expensive useless system.
I am a computer professional for over 20 years, and have never seen such nonsense from a computer provider. It's particularly amazing given their image of ease of use.
I have used Mac's and know others who dont have issues with theirs. It appears a hardware problem, but much more unworkable is the useless support. Even if they finally fixed this issue, the proven inability to get support makes me wary or engaging with them ever again.

He probably won't be able to buy anything Apple again!

He probably won't be able to buy anything Apple again! After all, he broke what appears to be the first rule in owning an Apple product, you can't admit that there is ever a problem with it.

Of course, the second rule is to bad mouth anyone who claims there is a problem with an Apple product.

Attitude

Dude, why all the pejoratives? Lots of technically literate folks out here in fly-over country consider Limbaugh less of a loudmouth than many in his industry. It never ceases to amaze me how those on the "other side" presume that all educated and intelligent people must share their worldview.

Probably to ...

Probably to emphasize a point.

How boring of a story it would be to simply say "Rush is having problems with his Mac and wants Apple to fix it."

However, to remind people that Rush is a loudmouth (I think he pretty much admits it too, if he's questioned about it) helps to emphasize the impact he hopes to achieve.

If Rush didn't intend this to become a news item that someone might pick up... he would never have mentioned it on the air or on his website. To think otherwise is simply...well, simple.

"It never ceases to amaze me how those on the "other side" presume that all educated and intelligent people must share their worldview."

Funny how the reverse is true. Even Rush is amazed that people don't agree with him all of the time; and will go so far as to explain how you obviously doesn't understand the situation if you don't agree with him. He seldom, if ever, gives way to agreeing that intelligent people think different than he does.

Reasons to never buy Mac continue to add up.

Over the years I've maintained an informal list of reasons not to buy anything Apple, with one side being pro and the other side being con. The ratio of Negatives against Apple vs Positives is about 10:1. That is, for every positive reason to buy an Apple product there are 10 negative reasons.

Maybe you need a new hobby?

Maybe you need a new hobby?

Why must we always mix politics into everything?

I don't understand...this is supposed to be a tech blog but you insist on mixing politics into it.
If anything, maybe you should talk about how the newest mac OS is having so many difficulties and it's not "just working" - networking and sharing of data has been broken or intermittent, promises are made to airport/time machine users and then broken and not fulfilled, the new mac OS won't play well with others...come to think about it, perhaps comparing mac's to politicians is appropriate!

Limbaugh

I believe that limbaugh has no love for windows, has owned apples since 1983, and regularly sings their praises.

You should separate yourself from the hate you carry, or jealousy of Limbaugh's gig, in order to see that limbaugh is a Super-duper mac fan.

I invite you to step over to windows if you like.

Limbaugh

I do not see any politics here. I see a attempt to degrade windows users.
Thanks anyway Mr. Jobs but you can keep Rush!

Is the ratio now 11-1?
