Security preparedness will continue under new Administration

As far as federal departments go, the Department of Homeland Security is so new that it will experience its first presidential transition when the administration takes office. After reading "Protecting the Transition" at nationaljournal.com, I’m hopeful that the Transportation Security Administration’s current deputy administrator, Gale Rossides will be able to help smooth the transition for the new administration’s TSA team.
While a presidential handover doesn’t necessarily put a nation in peril, I have to agree with Rossides’ comment, "It does not mean that there's anything specific, but you declare it as a... period of heightened alert."
Our nation created the DHS when we recognized and acknowledged the need for it – we’ve the right to expect it will be at the ready no matter what administration is in office. Says Rossides, "My focus over the last three years has been to really build that team and get the agency operating at a level where the change in administrations and the change in who is administrator wouldn't be impacted during a transition period." That is just what we need to hear and we should remain confident it will be so.
