SANTA BARBARA, CALIF. -- Wow. How'd they do it? Smartcard company Sagem Orga and BlueSky Positioning say they've collaborated to put GPS capability into a conventional tiny cell phone SIM card.
If it really works as advertised, that would mean any cell phone could be a GPS-enabled phone. SIM cards, which are about the size of a small thumbnail, could bring GPS capability to all kinds of non-phone gadgets as well, including wristwatches, credit-card size digital cameras -- you name it.
I'll keep an eye on this and let you know how well it actually works in real phones.
