An infamous gadget leaker offers this tantalizing shot of a future LG smartphone. Big whoop, except that there's some evidence that it's the hotly-anticipated Nexus 5. Unless it's the hotly-anticipated Optimus G2, natch. Anyway, it seems to have a 5.5-inch screen. Unless it's 4.7. Oh, what a tangled web we weave...
In IT Blogwatch, bloggers got nothing else to talk about.
Your humble blogwatcher curated these bloggy bits for your entertainment.
The pseudonymous entity known as @evleaks briefly Tweets thuswise:
...setting off a firestorm of blogtastic speculation, such as this, from Cory Gunther:
[It's] a brand new prototype smartphone from LG. ...this could be an Optimus G2, or even an LG Nexus 5. ... [LG] already released the Optimus G Pro. So why...also release an Optimus G2, it just doesn’t fully make sense.
The top and bottom are curved like a Nexus. ... We’ve heard multiple tips that the next Nexus will again be made by LG, so we’ll have to wait and see. MORE
...and this, from Anton D. Nagy, who leans towards the Nexus 5 theory:
Now the Nexus 5, whatever it will be, might refer to a five-inch screen or the fifth Nexus phone [and] we know the Nexus 4 will be due for a refresh around October.
Not much is known about the device aside from the outrageously small bezel, something LG already showed the world. MORE
George Tsay breaks out his ruler-and-calculator combo:
[I] get a dimension size of roughly 2.5 inches x 5 inches...about a 5.5 inch viewable area diagonally.
[I used a] measurement of a typical USB charging cord to estimate the dimensions. MORE
But Lars Leion's math don't agree:
Looks like it's a ~4,7 inch display if that usb connection is 10mm as mine right here is. MORE
Wait a sec. Who is this leaker? Chris Smith says he has previous:
[The] picture has been provided by renowned leakster @evleaks, who has offered various similar images in the past, most of them rather accurate. MORE
So Joe Svetlik triangulates:
Now here's a bit of a chin-scratcher.
The Nexus 5 is rumoured to launch around the autumn/winter time. ... Early whispers say the specs will be monstrous, with a 5.2-inch OLED display packing...1,920x1,080 pixels, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor...at 2.3GHz...a crazy 3GB of RAM...and there could be a 16-megapixel camera on board, capable of capturing videos at 4K.
...sounds too good to be true, especially if it's going to be anywhere near as cheap as the Nexus 4. MORE
Meanwhile, Chris Mills brings us back down to Earth, with a bump:
The most obvious answer is that this is the follow-up to LG’s Optimus G. ...the other option is that this might be the Nexus 5.
Of course, it might be an old prototype, or a figment of someone’s Photoshop imagination. MORE
