Sanity as a Service

Social networks hub for Fargo flood volunteers

When tragedy occurs people respond in different ways. One response is to want to help. Now.

Social networks let people do that. And there's no greater example than the current volunteer organizing work on Facebook, Twitter and other online venues to recruit and direct people to help save Fargo, North Dakota. In addition to social networks, bloggers have been helping pull together flood relief efforts. It's like Web 2.0 to the rescue.

Certainly the people at the mercy of the raging Red River are benefiting from the aid and organizing efforts from official sources. But I think we need an extra tip of the hat to social network mavens who are putting boots on the ground to help with the effort.

With a record flood stage looming before the people of North Dakota and the region, volunteers may make the difference if Fargo is going to avert a disaster.
