The Security Sector

Some campaign site visitors may vote "no confidence"

We knew we'd be seeing some hacking exploits during this presidential campaign and sure enough Senator Barack Obama's website is the most recent target. Jordan Robertson of the Associated Press reported here that when users attempted to go to the community blogs section at Obama's official site they instead were redirected to Hillary Rodman Clinton's campaign site.

Nifty little tactic, and although it seems it's not more than just a prank, it does mean that users and site visitors can leave their computer security in jeopardy by visiting infected sites. Cross-site scripting vulnerabilities aren't hard for security teams to fix - they just have to stay on their toes.  In the meantime visitors are forewarned that not only can these hackers simply redirect users to other, perhaps harmless sites, they may just send them to sites that will lift their personal data.  Watch where you're going.
