Stimulus spending and technology spending

I'm interested in delving into how the stimulus spending bill (about to passed) will relate to technology spending. The U.S. government (in all its forms including local, military, state and federal) always added up to the largest technology buying segment, but it was so fragmented or rooted in the past that my impression was often vendors treated it as a rich, but not particularly adept uncle.

No more. In this lousy economy, anyone with money to spend is of great importance to the business to business marketplace. And someone who just got a nearly $700 billion paycheck is sure to be at the top of the technology vendors party list.

Some of the big technology numbers are obvious. Those provisions include $19 billion for health information technology, $4.4 billion for upgrading the power grid and $7 billion for wider broadband access. The Wall Street Journal has a good article on further benefits of the stimulus bill for technology companies. Input is a company devoted to tracking government spending and contracts. They have been hard at work trying to jumping into the stimulus bill and see how it will be allocated.

Individual states have started putting up websites relating to how they will spend the stimulus money. Massachusetts and Virginia have both jumped in with websites.

I'll be covering technology spending as it relates to the government stimulus bill regularly in this blog, but I'd be real interested in hearing from techies and vendors in how this stimulus package will change their company. This year, government spending is the big driver for technology.
