The botnet bottleneck

The use of botnets is on the rise and it comes as no surprise because they're pretty effective.  If you're experiencing some sluggishness or other performance issues in your computer, there's the chance that botnet could be to blame.

Bad botnets are used most often to send out email spam, but are also used to pilfer data entered by innocent visitors to online shopping sites and even bank websites. Denial of service attacks also put botnets to use.

Even though I knew botnet use has been steadily on the rise, I was taken aback when I heard that Damballa (a security firm) identified 7.3 million occasions where botnets were used to carryout egregious deeds - on just ONE day in January!  Unfortunately for the time being it doesn't look like there's going to be a respite from the botnet deluge. There's too little manpower as well as too few experts to tackle the exploits from cutting edge criminals.
