Apple versus Google

The MacBook Brick

This is my latest thought on the MacBook Brick riddle that has been going around the Internet for the past few weeks. Is it just a brick of aluminum? The beginning of the process?

MacBook Brick

Update: I think we have a winner...

What People Are Saying

Apple's Brick

The brick is simply nanotechnology making the aluminum casing of a MacBook

Brick , sistema de fabricacion Apple para MacBook

[... l brick por llamaralo de alguna forma al sistema de fabricacion Apple para los Macbook..]

What you describe would never be called a "brick",

it's called a billet. And, carving a billet is EXPENSIVE. And, a laptop case would gain no mechanical advantage or aesthetic advantage or price advantage if it were carved from a billet, rather than stamped from a sheet.

This is the most nonsensical rumor I've ever heard. All you needed to do was talk to someone in engineering to find out how silly this rumor is.

This is complete rubbish. Do

This is complete rubbish. Do you know how expensive aluminum is? They roll an ingot, not that dissimilar to this, into a sheet, laser the cut outs then press it to form the shape. That will apply to the existing macbook pro's, that is how you manufacture that kind of enclosure. If you were to try and make it from a solid piece like this you can also double the price while you are at it.

What the hell?

Why bother putting a watermark on a generic picture of a block of aluminum? It's not proprietary or secret in any way, shape or form. It's just a block of aluminum.

Cheers

At least it's a reassurance that the new Macbook will be out on the 14th. Hopefully Apple will upgrade the general spec of the Macbook and its intergrated video card, not just the outer design. That would be a real deal and ofcourse, give Windows a run for their money. Cheaper, better and more reliable. You can read it all on 9to5mac.com

I was right also

By the time I saw the picture a laser (from 9 to 5 Mac) and the aluminum brick, I new that this would mean they can carve a macbook out of it. Laser are precise...so cutting metal would be the most sensible thing to do.

AHAHAHAHA I WAS RIGHT!!!!!

AHAHAHAHA
I WAS RIGHT!!!!! :D

they can now make a macbook outta one brick on aluminum :)

brick

Don't underrate the brick as wireless power. Almost everyone I know with a mac laptop calls the power adapter the power brick. I'd be shocked if that vernacular hadn't travelled to Cupertino.

meh

Hey, thats just the external new macbook (pro) superdrive!
only for those who still use cd's
