To Tell the Truth

Three reasons Woz should remain on Dancing with the Stars

I've been loosely following Steve Wozniak's foray into the bizarre as a contestant on the TV show Dancing with the Stars, and while I've often agreed with the judges' assessment of Woz as a dancer, I must give the man major points for perseverance and humility in the face of insurmountable odds. Each week the judges denigrate his dancing abilities, and each week Woz shows resiliency in the face of physical injury and emotional humiliation.

So I have three reasons why we should vote to keep Woz on Dancing with the Stars:

  1. He's vastly more entertaining than most of the other celebrities on that show. Would you rather watch a finely-coiffed Chuck Wicks, Gilles Marini or Shawn Johnson glide across the dance floor, or a flamenco dancer that resembles a walrus cling to a gorgeous Karina Smirnoff for dear life? Enough said.
  2. He's shown more chutzpah. Not only is he dancing with a pulled hamstring and a fractured foot, but when it comes to athleticism, Woz is in a league of his own compared to the other contestants, and I believe it's the league with which most Americans can identify: couch potato. And, besides, what is Dancing with the Stars, a show judging the best dancersĀ or the most entertaining contestants? I want entertainment.
  3. He's a really humble, nice guy who revolutionized the computer industry without losing his soul.

Last night was not the first time Woz commented after his performance that the judges were being too kind in giving him 10 points out of 30. Last week, he even called himself a heel for saying the producers of the show were setting him up to win the dance off and remain on the show in order to boost ratings. Woz later retracted the accusation after inspecting the voting equipment. He's just a really honest guy.

Even if you don't like Steve Jobs and Apple, you can't hate Woz who was the engineering brains behind Apple as well as the inventor of the universal TV remote control. Woz has never lost his average Joe appeal and has always been heavily involved in philanthropic ventures, especially as they apply to technology education for children. If nothing else, give the man a vote for the remote control you're holding.

What People Are Saying

My Three Reasons

1 - His left foot.
2 - His OTHER left foot.
3 - The viewership MUST be up. Just think of all the geeks that are watching that never watched before.

Personally, I've watched a couple episodes here and there in previous seasons, and bits of episodes this season. So, I'm not new to the show, or am I a loyal viewer. If he stays or if he goes doesn't matter. I just hope 2 things:
1 - He doesn't hurt himself any more times.
2 - He's able to pull off a dance that the judges can't rip apart.

All the best to Woz and the rest of the contestants.

The judges made me so angry

The judges made me so angry last night when they attempted to humiliate the Woz. There was NO constructive criticism, only insults. I've never voted for anyone the way I did last night for my favorite philanthropist and nerd: 12 text votes and 12 phone calls. (I'm guessing it riled a lot of his faithful fans since he was safe at the top of the show.) I've never seen anyone more humble and sweet, and the judges' treatment was just uncalled for!

Woz

I totally agree about the rude comments the judges made about Woz last night. He is such a sweet guy and doesn't deserve the things they said to deliberately humiliate him. DWTS is my favourite show on TV and I must say that a line was crossed last night. I wish I could say I won't watch the show again, but I was still extremely disappointed. It reminded me of something Simon would say on American Idol. I thought the judges on DWTS had more class. I was thrilled to see that the people voted for Woz and he's staying on the show. I bet the judges will be trying to make up for their ignorance next week. I hope so.

No. Woz is lame. It's a

No. Woz is lame. It's a Ballroom competition and it's a TV show... it's called ratings... he sux. Too fat and not funny...

Rude judges

I have watched the show from its beginning but after the rudeness shown by the judges to Steve Woz I will no longer be watching. He was definately no worse than Cloris Leachman last year, and look how long she lasted. And they even brought her back tonight. I find that ridiculous. I don't know this guy at all, but he certainly is trying, and I find their rudeness offensive and no longer care to support the show.

Keep the Woz dancing!

I've been a ballroom/latin dance instructor since I was 18 (and that is many, many decades ago!). I'm also a geek...been in the software biz for over 3 decades, so I feel qualified to comment.

Woz is fun to watch! I think he needs to stay for a few more rounds. Sure....there is no chance that he will (or should) win, since this is a dance competition not an "entertainment" competition, but he's more fun to watch and tries harder than the silicon-injected playboy bunny, that is so stiff (except for the jiggly bits) that she's painful to watch on the dance floor. I prefer Woz's style of silicon steps, thank you!

Or Denise Richards...easy on the eyes, but too stiff by far...no natural grace, plus she looks terrified every time. At least Woz is having fun (I would be too...how many nerds get to dance with someone as hot as his partner, after all?).

Much though I've always loved Juliann....her boyfriend is hopeless. He looked like a cross between an ostrich and a drunk gay rights activist last night.

He's got chutzpah. He's got enthusiasm. And he's got grace under fire...more than I can say for the judges blunt and inconsiderate blathering when it comes to our uber-nerd/dancer.

Go Woz!

Woz Has Killer Smile

The guy should be knighted. He's Mr. Everyman, fighting for his life in spite of heavy odds, risking life and limb for the sake of the art -- the art of living.

"I've been loosely

"I've been loosely following..."

Yeah, right. You're glued to the screen for the whole show and then watch it again off your DVR.

Flamenco, not flamingo

Dances are not birds.

He's entertaining!

And *that* is really what the show is about. Or should be.

Given competition like, oh, a 17-year-old Olympic gold medal gymnast and a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, it's ridiculous to expect he can "dance" as well. I think it's great that he's making the effort. Great lesson: Don't always stick to what you're good at, but go out and have fun.
