The Security Sector

Too many corporate networks remain underprotected

I wasn't really surprised when I learned that most corporate networks are vulnerable - but I was surprised that the numbers were as high as they are. According to an Infoworld article, "Most corporate networks vulnerable to cyberattacks" by Zafar Anjum, security provider Sophos conducted a global survey that revealed 81% of corporate end points fell short in basic security checks. The Sophos Endpoint Assessment Test measured an enterprise's ability to control endpoint security requirements like enabling firewalls and updating patches.

It's one thing when individuals get lax in keeping their security requirements up to date, but quite another when corporations fall short, especially when IT teams are entrusted with those tasks. Cyberthieves are no doubt happy to see such cavalier attitudes and readily take advantage when they find even the smallest opportunity to infiltrate. I've always respected Sophos - their services and products - and I hope they're able to get the word out about this extensive amount of vulnerability.
