Shark Tank

Too many Daves

Pilot fish works in an office setting where the managers have their own offices away from the ordinary staffers.

"If a manager was on the phone, calls would automatically divert to one of his staff," fish says.

"This manager named Dave chose to divert his phone calls to a member of his staff named Dave."

That works fine for a while, until one day the manager is on the phone and an incoming call bounces to his backup, Dave.

But backup Dave is on vacation, so someone at a nearby desk picks up the phone.

Caller: "Is Dave there?"

Staffer: "No, I'm afraid Dave is on vacation this week. He'll be back in on Monday."

Caller: "Oh, I'll be having words with him, then. He didn't tell me he's taking the week off, and I'm his wife."

The result? "Let's just say the manager would have been met by an irate wife," says fish. "We never found out what happened, but the next morning his phone was set to divert to a different member of his staff -- named Fred."
