Apple versus Google

US T-Mobile users can now download Android 1.5 (Cupcake)

T-Mobile has started its US rollout of Android 1.5 firmware.  This significant update was rolled out in Europe earlier this month to mild acclaim and expects to bring all of T-Mobile's million-plus global G1 users up to the latest OS.

US G1 users can expect to see a lot of new features in Cupcake (the code-name for the Android 1.5 release), including the ability to upload videos and pictures to Google's YouTube and Picassa respectively.  Additionally, G1 users will notice performance improvements throughout the OS and a new virtual keyboard similar to the iPhone.

This update comes as Apple and Palm are set to release their biggest products of the year over the next month.  Google is likely trying to get this update in its users' hands before they have a chance to see the new features in the competition's phones.

If you are a Tmobile G1 user in the US, you should see a notice to upgrade in the next few days, if you haven't already.

Any thoughts G1 users/updaters? How'd it go for you?
