Video of Samsung folding cell phone display emerges

SANTA BARBARA, CALIF. -- A video taken at Japan's Flat Panel Display show reveals a Samsung-branded cell phone display that unfolds to provide a screen double the size possible with a conventional display. In the demo, the folding takes place while the screen is actually on.

The working concept device shows a large but conventional looking cell phone with a small screen and buttons on the front. The prototype handset, however, opens up to reveal a large, fold-out display.

A folding display is probably the next step in the industry's attempt to solve the core problem in handsets: How to minimize the size of the device while simultaneously maximizing the size of the display.

What People Are Saying

foldable MID

To me, cell phones, mini notebooks, the new Qualcomm MID and many other gagets have a tit for tat attitude. They give a little charge a little more, they look by products at their competitors and then they come out with something just a little better. I know it's all about cost, but I believe any company who would do a few steps ahead and charges ultra reasaonbly will win.

I have to say though I am delighted that your company has come up with the foldable.
